ARTWOOD COTTAGE WORLD'S MOST BEAUTIFUL COTTAGES
Artwood Cottage is a cozy vacation hideaway in the woods on Pender Island, part of the Gulf Islands chain along the southern coast of British Columbia. The small cottage was restored by its owners, one a master plasterer and stained glass artist, and the other a woodworker. Using their creative talents, they included custom touches throughout.
The stair and loft railings are custom, featuring some kind of insert panel instead of spindles. The kitchen cabinets look like they were original to the cottage or were recycled, but they were topped with a new wood countertop and backsplash. One idea we particularly like is the heat shield for the woodstove, fashioned from a large slab of natural stone. Another big chunk of rock serves as a stoop for the entry door.
