Absolutely Beautiful Mini Motives DIY tiny house—built by architect Macy Miller for her then family
Perhaps one of the most shared tiny homes on the internet since it was built in 2012, the Mini Motives DIY tiny house—built by architect Macy Miller for her then family of four in Boise, Idaho for just over $11,000!
How did they do it? Lot's of hard work and lot's of time to say the least!
With her contacts in the construction industry, Macy was also able to get some discounted and sponsored materials to help keep costs low, but it definitely took a lot of cold calling and asking!
Initially, the tiny home was constructed as a 196-sqft tiny on a 24' trailer with a 5-ft open porch for the entry-way. For the first year, Macy lived in the home alone with her Great Dane, but later her then-boyfriend, James, moved in and eventually started a family in their tiny home. The family of four soon became a family of five with the birth of their son two years later, and Macy knew her family needed some extra space in their home.
Instead of building a new tiny or purchasing a bigger home, the couple decided to enclose the 5-ft outdoor porch that originally served as the entryway, and convert it into a small bedroom with bunk beds for the kids. With the addition, the total cost of the build for the home was $13,000. Still an incredibly affordable amount that has afforded them a life where they don't have to work long hours and can spend more time raising their kids!
With new goals and new opportunities for adventure, the Mini Motives family recently purchased and renovated a 1966 Aloha travel trailer that is only 84-sqft! They have been on an adventure across the country with their two kids and dog and intend to spend at least a year on the road. Follow their journey on Instagram or on their blog!
